On, August 9, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to allow the use of JYNNEOS (a 2-dose vaccine that prevents Monkeypox disease) to be given between layers of the skin (intradermally) for people 18 years of age and older* at high risk for monkeypox infection. It takes 14 days after getting the second dose of JYNNEOS for its immune protection to reach its maximum.
Eligibility Criteria:
Monkeypox vaccine is now available to the following high-risk groups:
- People who are aware that a recent sex partner within the last 14 days was diagnosed with monkeypox
- Certain gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men, or transgender and gender diverse people who have sex with men who have had any of the following in the past 14 days: sex with multiple partners (or group sex); sex at a commercial sex venue; or sex, skin-to-skin, or intimate contact with other persons in association with an event, venue, or defined geographic area where monkeypox transmission is occurring
- Certain gay, bisexual, or other men who have sex with men, or transgender and gender diverse people who have sex with men who have had any of the following in the past 12 months: had a diagnosis of gonorrhea and/or early syphilis
- People who are taking HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
- Known contact to someone with monkeypox who are identified by public health authorities or infection control
- Persons experiencing homelessness or immunocompromised persons with high-risk behaviors (e.g., recent contact with skin lesions, mucus membranes, or body fluids from a person with monkeypox or linens, clothing, or other objects that may have contacted skin lesions or bodily fluids of a person with monkeypox)
